Leopard Walk Lodge is situated 18 km outside of Hluhluwe town on the Elephant Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We lie between the iSimangaliso Wetland Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and the Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, one of Africa's oldest Big 5 game reserves. Our property is inside a rare sand forest wildlife reserve.

We are within the iSimangaliso World Heritage Site environs and situated inside a private sand forest reserve that forms part of the broader Elephant Coast ecosystem. This means you experience authentic bush surroundings — over 350 bird species and abundant wildlife — without the crowds of a public park.

The Hluhluwe Gate of Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park — the world's oldest proclaimed Big 5 reserve — is approximately 30 minutes' drive from the lodge. We can arrange guided game drives into the park on your behalf.

The lodge is roughly 2.5 to 3 hours' drive north of King Shaka International Airport (DUR) via the N2 highway. We can arrange private airport transfers and safari shuttles on request — contact us at reservations@leopardwalklodge.co.za for a quote.

Yes — Hluhluwe is one of the best-positioned bases on the Elephant Coast. From Leopard Walk Lodge you can do a Big 5 game drive in the morning and a boat safari on Lake St Lucia in the afternoon. St Lucia is approximately 50 km south. We build combined packages around both experiences.

We offer two accommodation types. The Secrets of the Forest suites are our flagship — glass-walled, with private outdoor Jacuzzis and uninterrupted forest views, ideal for couples and honeymooners. The Buffalo Thorn room is a comfortable, practical double room with en-suite shower — a great option for solo travellers, single-night stopovers, or guests who want the lodge experience at a more accessible price point. Both have air-conditioning and are within the reserve.

Yes. Leopard Walk Lodge has a firm commitment to accessible travel. We offer disability-friendly accommodation and work closely with our sister operation, Access 2 Africa Safaris, which specialises in day tours and activities for mobility-challenged visitors across the Elephant Coast.

Absolutely. The Secrets of the Forest suite was designed specifically for couples — glass walls on all sides, a private outdoor Jacuzzi, and forest views that change with the light throughout the day. We offer dedicated Honeymoon Packages and Anniversary Specials that include champagne, chocolates, and guided experiences.

The Big 5 — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo — are found in the Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, a short drive from the lodge. We arrange guided Big 5 game drives into the park. On the lodge property itself you will encounter zebra, impala, nyala, warthog, and a remarkable array of birdlife — over 350 recorded species.

We can arrange a wide range of local activities including: boat safaris on Lake St Lucia, wild cat interaction at Emdoneni Lodge, elephant interaction, Zulu Art & Culture tours, and crocodile and cheetah encounters. Most activities can be booked as day trips from the lodge.

Yes — the sand forest and surrounding reserve host over 350 bird species, making the Elephant Coast one of the premier birdwatching destinations in southern Africa. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park nearby adds wetland and coastal species to the mix. Guests regularly encounter hornbills, sunbirds, raptors, and rarely-seen forest specialists from the lodge grounds alone.

Cancellations more than 60 days before arrival carry a minimal admin fee. Cancellations 30–60 days prior forfeit the deposit. Cancellations within 30 days of arrival forfeit the full booking amount. Full terms are provided at time of booking and are available on request.

Pack neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, beige) for game drives, as bright colours can disturb wildlife. Bring a light jacket for early morning drives, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a good pair of binoculars. A camera with a decent zoom lens is highly recommended. Formal attire is not needed — safari smart-casual suits all lodge settings.

Yes, we provide Wi-Fi connectivity at the lodge. We are in a remote bush environment and connectivity is managed via LTE — sufficient for messaging, email, and light browsing. We gently encourage guests to embrace the bush and disconnect where possible.

The lodge is within a private, secured wildlife reserve. You will regularly encounter wildlife such as zebra, impala, and warthog on the property — which is part of the experience. Our team will brief you on safe movement around the grounds on arrival. We do not recommend unaccompanied bush walks beyond the lodge perimeter.

Yes. Our sand forest setting is a unique and intimate venue for weddings and private celebrations. The lodge offers a dedicated wedding package including venue hire, on-site coordination, décor, catering, and bridal suite.
