“If you wish to make a difference in the world,

this program is ideally suited to you!”

You will be based in the Magnificent area of a World Natural Heritage Site in Suni-Ridge Wildlife Reserve (the reserve that surrounds  Leopard Walk Lodge) As a much needed Volunteer you will be reassured that you would direct your participation to that area of concern which inspires you to come to Africa and thus make a positive and significant difference through your efforts. You are invited to choose from a broad scope of concern that is offered in The Suni-Ridge World Natural Heritage Volunteer program, you may also which to gain experience in  various areas of operation and you will make the choice:


Our program needs your help

You can make a difference in critical areas of concern:

Humane wildlife conservation
Rural social upliftment
Environmental Education

  • Hands on experience with wild animal management – snare patrols, wildlife assessments and wildlife rehab duties.
  • Habitat management, trails and identification
  • Working with rural Orphans and Junior School children in a secure environment.
  • Working with rural Senior School children in the Young Environmental Ambassador Leadership Education Program.
  • And more….
  • Comfortable accommodation – home from home in Buffalo Thorn Cottage Rooms.
  • All meals and refreshments.
  • Swimming pool, recreation and excursions

Your stay will not be ALL work!  You will also enjoy excursions to experience local Zulu culture ,socialise with and get to know South African people, be fascinated as you discover the region’s Natural treasures including visits and hikes in Big Five Game Reserves such as the World Renowned Big Five Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve, Mkuze Game Reserve and Sodwana Bay World Natural Heritage Marine Reserve and others, all in the magnificent but fragile Elephant Coast of Zululand.

Lion and Hyena – Giraffe kill, Hluhluwe Game Reserve

Lion have been quite visible in Hluhluwe Game Reserve lately.

Sunday afternoon we found a giraffe kill right next to the road in Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve.
As we approached it there were people infront of us who were holding hankies over their noses as they were in an open game drive vehicle  -  Suddenly the wind blew in our direction and we got the smell which was quite overpowering! Read the rest »

Elephant Interaction – Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park
